Treating Trauma: School and Community Counselors as First Responders

Presented by Robert Witchel, Ed.D., N.C.C.

Disclosure of trauma (sexual, physical, and emotional abuse; family violence; parental or sibling death, accidents) from children and adults has challenged mental health and addiction professionals in a wide range of settings. This workshop offers an introduction to Somatic Experiencing®, a short-term naturalistic approach to the resolutin and healing of trauma developed by Dr. Peter Levine. Specific therapeutic strategies will be introduced that

  1. respond effectively to persons who have experience incidents that can lead to trauma, and
  2. promote the healing of trauma for children, adolescents, and adults.
