Job fairs provide a convenient means for making one-to-one contact with a variety of employers in one place at one time. The Career Development Center promotes local and regional events and provides preparatory programs to make the job fair “work” for you. Some of the annual fairs IUP’s Career Development Center sponsors or co-sponsors include:
Accounting Career Fair
The Accounting Fair, held mid-September each year, is an opportunity for IUP accounting majors to meet employers from public accounting firms, government agencies, and financial services companies. It is open to freshmen through seniors, graduate students, and alumni. It is also open to finance majors and any candidate with at least six credits in accounting.
Criminology and Government Career Fair
The Criminology and Government Career Fair is an opportunity for students to explore different careers that are related to criminology/government and an opportunity for employers to recruit future employees or interns. Over 275 students attend this fair each year. Most are seniors preparing to find a career, while the remaining students are exploring career opportunities for their future. This event is also open to the students of the Criminal Justice Training Center.
IUP Teacher Recruiting Fair
This educational fair is held on the IUP campus in April. All IUP students and alumni are invited to attend. There is no registration fee for students or alumni, but IUP candidates are strongly encouraged to register and upload their resumes on College Central Network (CCN). Participating school districts have access to the CCN resume database to search for candidates both before and after the job fair. Students attending the job fair are encouraged to attend a workshop “Making a Career Fair Work for You." Details on this workshop are available by contacting the office.
Pittsburgh Educational Recruiting Consortium (PERC)
A teacher recruiting fair for seniors and alumni, this fair is held at the ExpoMart in Monroeville each Spring. Typically, over one hundred fifty school districts from around the U.S. attend to interview teacher candidates. Preregistration is required and a small fee is charged. Contact the Career Development Center for registration information. Candidates from the constortium member colleges must preregister through their own university’s career centers. On-site registration is available at an additional charge. Students attending the WestPACS job fair are encouraged to attend a workshop “Making a Career Fair Work for You.” Details on this workshop are available by contacting the office.
Summer Job and Internship Fair
The Summer Job and Internship Fair is an opportunity for businesses, organizations, agencies, and camps which have internship and summer job opportunities to connect with students who are seeking these experiences. The fair is usually held the last week of February. The pool of participants includes recruiters from camps, amusement parks, resorts, radio stations, retail stores, government agencies, and police departments.
The IUP Technology Career Fair is an opportunity to expose our students to the variety of employment and internship opportunities that are open to them and to assist the employers in developing a technology workforce. This event is open to students at all levels (freshmen through seniors) as well as to alumni who may be interested in making career connections. Introducing IUP students to companies both large and small will help to assure a skilled workforce for the future. Students attending the tech fair are encouraged to attend a workshop “Making a Career Fair Work for You” on March 26, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. in 305 Pratt Hall.
WestPACS
