Job fairs are a convenient way to make one-to-one contact with a variety of employers in one place at one time. The Career Development Center promotes local and regional events and provides preparatory programs to make the job fair “work” for you. Some of the annual fairs IUP’s Career Development Center sponsors or co-sponsors include:

Accounting Career Fair

The Accounting Fair, held mid-September each year, enables accounting majors to meet employers from public accounting firms, government agencies, and financial services companies. It is open to freshmen through seniors, graduate students, and alumni, as well as finance majors and any candidate with at least six credits in accounting.

The morning session is exclusively for IUP students. The afternoon session is open to IUP students and accounting/finance majors from other western Pennsylvania universities.

Career Expo

Students have the opportunity to meet representatives from local and national companies and organizations. Employers will be looking for individuals for full-time positions, as well as internships and co-ops. The Career Expo also provides you an opportunity to explore employers and career opportunities that you may have never thought about.

The Career Expo offers employers with entry-level, internship, and co-op positions an opportunity to meet in one central location with alumni, graduating students, and upperclassmen. Candidates attending will be IUP students or IUP graduates with associate, bachelor, and/or graduate degrees. Employers will be able to speak with candidates, distribute recruitment literature, and conduct brief interviews.

Pittsburgh Educational Recruiting Consortium

A teacher recruiting fair for seniors and alumni, PERC is held in Monroeville each spring. Typically, over 150 school districts from around the U.S. attend to interview teacher candidates. Preregistration is required and a small fee is charged. Contact the Career and Professional Development Center for registration information. Candidates from the consortium member colleges must preregister through their own university’s career centers. On-site registration is available at an additional charge.

Public Service Career Fair

The Public Service Career Fair is an opportunity for students to explore different careers that are related to criminology/government and an opportunity for employers to recruit future employees or interns. Over 275 students attend this fair each year. Most are seniors preparing to find a career, while the remaining students are exploring career opportunities for their future. This event is also open to the students of the Criminal Justice Training Center.

Summer Employment and Internship Fair

The Summer Employment and Internship Fair is an opportunity for businesses, organizations, agencies, and camps which have internship and summer job opportunities to connect with students who are seeking these experiences. The fair is usually held the last week of February. The pool of participants includes recruiters from camps, amusement parks, resorts, radio stations, retail stores, government agencies, and police departments.

WestPACS

A job fair for juniors, seniors, and recent graduates in business, science, and the liberal arts, WestPACS is held each year in November and March at the Convention Center in Monroeville. Sponsored by 42 colleges and universities in western Pennsylvania, WestPACS is one of the best regional job fairs in the country, averaging nearly 200 employers each year. Online preregistration is required at www.westpacs.org.

Please inquire about transportation to the fair by contacting the Career and Professional Development Center at career-development@iup.edu or 724-357-2235 or stopping by the office in Pratt 302. A deposit will be required to hold your seat; this will be returned on the way back to IUP.

Students who plan to attend WestPACS are encouraged to attend a workshop “Making a Career Fair Work for You.” Details on this workshop are available by contacting the office.
