There is no limit to what you can do with foreign language study, and the IUP Department of Foreign Languages is an excellent place to get the skills and knowledge that will make you marketable in today's global society.

By taking foreign language courses at IUP, you will learn to speak, read, write, and understand spoken language, as well as gain valuable cultural insights that can make you more competitive in many fields, including business and commerce, travel and tourism, translation and interpretation, education, politics, and government work. The IUP Department of Foreign Languages provides a wonderful opportunity to study a wide variety of languages, including Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Japanese.

The department is home to the renowned IUP Spanish Education K-12 program, twice recognized by the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages as an outstanding language education program, as well as the new Spanish Master of Arts program. The department also offers a B.A. in Spanish. You can also pursue a Minor in French, a Minor in German, or a Minor in Spanish.

You can also choose to pursue langauge course work in many other languages, including Arabic, Korean, Urdu, Hindi, Hebrew, Modern Greek, Russian, Dutch,Finnish, Swedish, Swahili, and Portuguese, among others. Visit the Critical Languages homepage for more information.

Spanish
Spanish programs at IUP include the B.A. in Spanish, B.S.Ed. in Spanish Education K-12, and a Spanish minor.
French
Currently, the department offers a minor in French and language courses are available.
German
Currently, the department offers a minor in German and language courses are available.
Chinese
The Department of Foreign Languages offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced Chinese courses.
Japanese
The Department of Foreign Languages offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced Japanese language courses.
