Ronald Trenney in classroom with students.Ronald Trenney is assistant department chair and faculty member in the Athletic Training Education Program (IUP-ATEP). Mr. Trenney received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1983. He also holds a Master of Education degree from the Pennsylvania State University and currently is in the dissertation phase of his doctorial studies. He is certified by the National Athletic Training Association (NATA), as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is a certified American Red Cross instructor in First Aid, CPR, AED, and Sports Safety Training. He holds memberships in the Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society, where he previously served as the northwestern representative to the state board.

Currently Mr. Trenney teaches a variety of courses including a Liberal Studies required course titled Health and Wellness, a department core course, Human Structure and Function, and numerous other courses in the Athletic Training education program, including Orthopaedic Injury Assessment in Athletic Training, Therapeutic Modalities, Organization and Administration in Athletic Training, and Athletic Training Clinical Practicums II and III.

His professional experience includes more than twenty-five years of clinical supervision of athletic teams at IUP as well as at Saint Vincent College, Derry Area School District, Keystone Rehabilitation Systems, and Laurel Highland Health Center. Mr. Trenney has served as an athletic trainer for the Pittsburgh Marathon, Special Olympics, Pennsylvania State Games, Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp, Big 33 Football Classic, and numerous NCAA championship events.

He currently serves as the chair of the Eugene E. Lepley Scholarship Committee and serves as a member of the IUP Athletics Division of Sports Medicine Committee and the IUP Athletics Substance Abuse Committee.  Mr. Trenney has presented nationally on such topics as institutional drug testing, injury evaluation and rehabilitation, athletic training administration, and topics related to health and wellness instructional strategies.

Before his appointment as a full-time faculty member, Mr. Trenney served as the head athletic trainer at IUP for more than thirteen years. Before his arrival at IUP, he held the same positions at both Saint Vincent College and the Derry Area School District.
