Dr. Robert Kostelnik is an associate professor in the Sport Management academic program. He holds a Ph.D. in Athletic Administration and a Master of Arts in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh. His Bachelor of Science degree was granted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Health and Physical Education. Dr. Kostelnik serves as co-coordinator of the department’s Master of Science in Sport Science program and holds membership in the North American Society for Sport Management.
Dr. Kostelnik instructs courses in the undergraduate Sport Administration track and the graduate Sport Management track. His primary instructional interests are in the areas of sport facility and event management, athletic coaching, and health and wellness. He has also taught Introduction to Sport Management, Senior Seminar in Health and Physical Education, and Graduate Seminar.
Dr. Kostelnik is the internship coordinator for the Sport Management program and supervises both undergraduate and graduate student interns each semester.
His professional experience includes more that eighteen years as a junior college athletic director, director of wellness/fitness, and director of student life. He also has five years of experience as an academic division chairperson for the business/social science/culinary instructional division.
His research interests are aggression and violence in sports, athletic coaching, youth sports, and the physiological response of sports officials and coaches during events. He also has an interest in health status changes that occur among college students. He has presented numerous times at professional conferences at the state and national levels.
Dr. Kostelnik has an interest in curriculum development and revision. He is board secretary for the Outside In School, which works with troubled youth. He serves as a board member of the Greensburg YMCA.
