Dr. Black has been a core faculty member for 16 years in the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPED), where she teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses. Her research and teaching focus on school and community health, health and wellness, health aspects of aging, and curriculum and sexuality education. She has also been instrumental in establishing a model for Student Assistance Programming at the collegiate level which led to multiple national presentations and an article published with HPED colleagues in the respected, peer-reviewed Student Assistance Journal.

Christine has twice received the Faculty ROSE Award (for recognition of superior effort), and also has been honored by IUP’s former president, Dr. Lawrence Pettit as “one of the outstanding instructors whose extra effort and concern for students has made a difference.” This provides testimony for the fact that she positively impacts the lives of her students.

Responding to the frequently expressed needs of her students, Christine helped to initiate the College Student Assistance Program (CSAP) in the HPED department.
