Dr. Robert E. Alman II is an assistant professor and codirector for the Center for Health Promotion and Cardiac Disease Prevention at IUP. Dr. Alman received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Secondary Education, from California University of Pennsylvania in 1982 and his Master of Science degree from West Virginia University in Exercise Physiology in 1987. In addition, Dr. Alman received a doctoral degree in Administration and Leadership Studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2006.  

Currently, Dr. Alman teaches a variety of courses, including a Liberal Studies required course titled Health and Wellness, Physical Fitness Appraisal, Physical Activity and Stress Management, and Management Concepts in Fitness. He also teaches Distance Education (on-line) courses in Health and Wellness, and Physical Activity and Stress Management. Dr. Alman is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Center for Health Promotion and oversees testing in the areas of body composition, cardiovascular fitness, strength testing, and flexibility testing. In addition, the center conducts various faculty- and student-driven research projects.  

Professional experiences include three years of public school teaching in the area of Life Science and eleven years as the Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation and Wellness programming at Indiana Regional Medical Center.  

In addition, Dr. Alman serves as the volunteer strength and conditioning coach for the Indiana Area Senior High School girls’ volleyball team. He is an instructor for the Criminal Justice Training Center at IUP and has been a presenter at national, regional, and local meetings in the fields of cardiac rehabilitation, stress, and health and wellness education.
