Program Overview
The Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) program prepares educators to become effective and innovative leaders in classrooms, schools, and communities. This program is designed for teachers holding an Instructional I or II certificate (or the equivalent if certified to teach in a state other than Pennsylvania). This intensive, part-time program is focused on teaching and learning, with an emphasis on integrated curriculum and instructional technology.
Students who successfully complete the M.Ed. program may apply for IUP's Principal Certification Program, which is delivered from the main campus in Indiana, Pa.
Format
The M.Ed. program utilizes a cohort format. Admitted students begin this 36-credit program as a group during the Fall semester and take all coursework together for six semesters (summer sessions included). Courses are divided into six thematic units of six credits each. Courses include MEDU 761 through MEDU 766. There is no provision for transfer credit, individualized instruction, workshops, or taking these thematic units as electives.
Classes meet one evening per week, from 5:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., during the Fall and Spring semesters and two evenings per week during one summer session (five weeks in length).
