If you have a video that is on YouTube, you can easily embed that video into a page on your site or into a news post.
This is accomplished through a SmartForm available in the CMS. To create a page or news post with a video embedded, you will need the URL from Youtube, and the content for the page.
Create a Page with a YouTube Video Embedded
- To create a page with a video, first go to your Workarea.
- On the left side of the Workarea, click Content.

- Also on the left side of your Workarea, find your unit website.
- While in the section of your site that you want to create the new page, moue over New in the menu bar.
In the pulldown menu, mouse over SmartForms. In that list, mouse over YouTube Video and click to select the form.
- When the form opens, give the page a title. This will be what appears at the top of the page.
- You will need the URL from YouTube. To get the URL:
Open a browser window and go to the video on YouTube. Below the video, click the Share button. In the area that appears below, copy the URL that YouTube provides (will be this format: http://youtu.be/EuDVD25NJBw).
- Paste the URL into the Video URL field of the form.
- The width and height are set to the full width of the page. If you have or need a different size, you will need to get the proper dimensions from YouTube:
When you have the video open to watch, go to the Share options. Below the video, click the Share button. In the area that appears below, click Embed. A few options will appear below that, including a Custom Dimensions area. Put in the width that you need, and YouTube will automatically generate the proper height. Copy and paste these dimensions into the appropriate fields of the form.
- The Page Content field is the same as a standard page content area, and can be formatted like any other page. You should have an introductory paragraph, styled to the introduction style. You can also include text, photos, links and more as you would a normal page.
- Under the Summary tab, enter a short description of the post.
- Submit the page for publishing as you would any other page.
Create a News Post with a YouTube Video Embedded
The process for creating a news post with a video embedded is the same as embedding a video in a page, only you are creating a news post in the news area.
- To post news, first go to your Workarea.
- On the left side of the Workarea, click Content.
- Also on the left side of your Workarea, find your unit website and find your News folder. Beneath your News folder, you will see what appears to be a subfolder, indicated with a Blog icon and labeled with your unit's name, followed by "News." See "Web Team News" below:
- On the right side of your Workarea, mouse over New on the toolbar, and on the pull-down menu, mouse over SmartForm. Then select HTML Post with Video.
- Give the post a title. This is what will appear as the headline for the news item.
- Enter the Video URL as shown above.
- Enter the content of the post, as you would for any content item.
- Under the Summary tab, enter a short description of the post. Check the appropriate box under Subjects. If the categories provided do not suit your typical news posts, please contact the Web Team to have different categories added.
- When finished, submit the post for publishing, as you would any other content item.
