Apply for Financial Aid: File Your FAFSA

The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is your ticket to grants, loans, or work study aid from the federal government and, if you’re a Pennsylvania resident, the state government.

Aid is awarded each spring for the upcoming fall, spring, and summer terms.

So, file your FAFSA. As Nat and Brendan put it, “Go get your money!”

IUP code: 003277

Filing Deadlines

  • 2014–15 academic year: File January 1–April 15, 2014, for maximum aid consideration.
  • 2015–16 academic year: File January 1–April 15, 2015, for maximum aid consideration.

How to File Your FAFSA

  1. Review the FAFSA Worksheet (pdf) – See what kind of information you’ll need to provide.
  2. Get a Federal Student Aid PIN. Your PIN lets you electronically sign your FAFSA. If you’re providing parent information, a parent must also sign your FAFSA, so he or she will also need a PIN.
  3. File the FAFSA online. Click the green “Start a New FAFSA” button, and you’ll be taken step-by-step through the filing process.
  4. Pat yourself on the back! Financial aid will be coming your way.
  5. Five minutes later: Review the Aid Application Process Checklist to see what your next steps are. Have you applied for scholarships?
