The explosion of smartphones in enterprise and personal computing heightens concerns about the security and privacy of users. Recent studies have shown that applications can host new types of malware. Unfortunately, there are few tools to help identify what vulnerabilities applications represent. This talk explores smartphone security through several research projects which attempt to identify vulnerabilities and malicous code in phone market applications. Using a number of cautionary tales to guide the discussion, we identify how hackers are now using these now-pervasive devices to expoit people and organizations.
