Locating a Book

Once you have the call number for a book, you can than locate the book in the Library. (See Finding a Book for additional help with finding a call number)

  • Call numbers with the letters A – K will be located on the second floor.
  • Call numbers with the letters L – Z will be located on the third floor.
  • Call numbers that begin with the word OVERSIZE will be located on the third floor.
  • Call numbers that begin with the word [REF] are reference books, located on the first floor.
  • Books that are part of the Children’s Collection are located on the second floor in the Stabley section of the library, across the breezeway. These books will have either Dewey or LC call numbers, but all are marked with a “J” or “JUV,” which designates Children’s Collection.
  • Books that are part of the “Popular Reading Collection” or “Schafer Collection” are located on the first floor by the elevators.

Once you are in the correct section of the library, you can search within the aisles to locate your book. All of the aisles are labeled on the end caps with the first and last book’s call number.

After you are in the correct aisle, read the letters of the call number first, and then the numbers before the decimal point as a whole number and the numbers after the decimal point as individual numbers.

When you have located your book, bring it, with your I-Card, to the Circulation Desk, or use the Express Check-Out to check out your book.

If you are unable to locate a book, please come to the Circulation Desk for assistance.
