Parents and Families of Incoming Freshmen

  • Congratulations on your student’s acceptance to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP)!

College is an exciting new beginning for your student. To include you in this excitement, we have developed a Parent and Family Orientation Program to help you better understand the transition to college, our unique requirements, and to become acquainted with our campus and its resources. As a parent of an incoming IUP freshman, you may choose to attend either a weekend spring (non-residential for students) Orientation, or a two-day (residential for students) summer orientation, each of which runs simultaneously (but entirely separate from) a concurrent, mandatory student orientation program.

Some of the Featured Topics in the Parent Program Include:

    • Academic programs and policies
    • University costs, financial aid, and payment plans
    • Residence life and dining hall information
    • Tour of the residence hall facilities
    • Question and answer session with a student panel
    • Other topics are covered depending on orientation session length

The document IUP Parent and Family Orientation Process 2015 provides greater detail about our programs, related fees, and outlines the steps you will take to register for Orientation. Your student will receive a separate mailing with instructions for enrolling for the student orientation. Please note that their letter constitutes an invitation to the program, not automatic enrollment. They should enroll for Student Orientation, as directed in their letter. You may enroll in the Parent Program after your student has enrolled in the student program.

Because you will play such an important role in the adjustment of your student to college life, we sincerely hope that you will join us for the Orientation program for parents. If you have questions or concerns, please e-mail us at (preferred) or call us at 724-357-4067 [Voice/T/D] between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday.
