About Orientation

Student on campus

Our Orientation programs are structured to will help prepare you for your first semester at IUP.

Orientation is designed for two main groups: freshmen and transfer students. The focus of the programs is upon easing your transition to IUP. As well, we orient you to university expectations and resources. During the program, you will take placement tests, meet current students, receive academic advice, and register for your first courses.

For first year students entering in the Fall semester, there are specific Summer Orientations for incoming Honors College, Indiana campus, Punxsutawney, and Northpointe students. (As well, some Indiana campus admit freshmen attend an abbreviated late spring Orientation, in lieu of Summer Orientation.)

All IUP Orientation programs for entering Fall first year students, with the exception of the Northpointe orientation, take place on the Indiana campus and have a concurrent Parent Orientation Program. As well, orientation for transfer students occurs on the Indiana campus and has a concurrent Transfer Parent Orientation Program.

Orientation programs last two days for freshmen and one day for Northpointe and transfer students.

August and January orientations also serve entering freshman and transfer students. The January Orientation typically occurs the weekend before the semester starts. At August and January orientations, Indiana campus freshmen and transfer students have programs on the Indiana campus. The August and January orientation programs for Punxsutawney and Northpointe campus students are one day and held on their respective campuses.
