The Teacher Education Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology promotes excellence in the cross-disciplinary teaching, learning, and research in the disciplines represented its member departments:  Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geoscience, Mathematics, and Physics in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the University School, Departments of Professional Studies in Education and Special Education, and Clinical Services in the College of Education. The Center is organized to serve the needs of both in-service and pre-service teachers in obtaining the cognitive and pedagogical base congruent with the national and state standards for science and mathematics education as well as the latest research in the disciplines of the center member departments.  The Center draws upon the resources of the university and the community and acts as a liaison between the community and Center resources.  The Center promotes, coordinates, and facilitates community outreach activities to promote science, mathematics, and elementary education in the schools and to foster the development of scientific literacy in the community.  Faculty associated with the Center are committed to the development, design, and publication of scholarly work.  The Center encourages cross-curricular grant proposals that involve area school districts, the business community, and IUP.
