Machado, Park, and Thompson Awarded Grants by Frederick Douglass Institute Collaborative

Three IUP faculty members have been awarded PDE Keystone grants of $2,000 each—Crystal Machado, Gloria Park, and Todd Thompson. The winners were selected through a competitive, peer-reviewed awarding process administered by the statewide Frederick Douglass Institute Collaborative.

Crystal Machado, of the Department of Professional Studies in Education, will be completing a project entitled “Making Diversity Work: International Students Describe their Experiences at a Predominantly White University in the East Coast.” Gloria Park will be working on “Undergraduate Students’ Voices: Raising Awareness of Social Justice Issues through Research Writing.” Todd Thompson project is entitled “Laughing Du-Plomacy: Frederick Douglass, Northern Racism, and Satiric Rhetoric.” Both Park and Thompson are faculty members in the Department of English.

The grants support travel for research and conference presentations, student assistants, and transcription and manuscript preparation services.
