Harris Wins Third National Championship in Long Jump; Outman Takes Third in Heptathlon

IUP’s Nafee Harris won his third national championship in the long jump on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at the NCAA Division II outdoor meet in Charlotte, N.C.

Maddy Outman finished third in the heptathlon Friday at the NCAA meet. The Sociology graduate student set a school and PSAC record with 5,392 points and set personal bests in six of the seven events.

With a top jump of 26 feet, 1½ inches, Harris finished more than ten inches ahead of the runner-up and came within a quarter inch of breaking his own school record.

A junior, Harris is the only athlete in IUP track and field history to win more than one national championship.

IUP has had twelve athletes win a total of fourteen national championships in indoor and outdoor track and field.
