The Office of Liberal Studies will hold a writing workshop for faculty with facilitator Dr. Robert Yagelski from SUNY-Albany on May 12–13, 2010. Dr. Helen Sitler of IUP will conduct a half day wrap-up to the workshop the morning of May 14, 2010.
Wednesday, May 12, and Thursday, May 13
Time: 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (with continental breakfast at 8:15 a.m. and lunch at noon)
Location: Monongahela Room, HUB
Facilitator: Dr. Robert Yagelski from SUNY–Albany
Target Audience:
- Interested in interdisciplinary discussions about writing, writing assignments, grading issues, challenges of incorporating writing assignments in a course, and strategies for helping students become more successful writers
- Planning to apply for Type I Professor Commitment writing status: attendance at the two-day workshop is expected (unless there is evidence of meeting the expectation another way)
- Planning to propose a Type II or III writing intensive course
- Teaching a department-designated writing intensive course
- Interested in revitalizing your commitment to help students become more successful writers
Friday, May 14
Time: 9:00 a.m.–noon (with continental breakfast at 8:15 a.m.)
Location: Monongahela Room, HUB
Target Audience:
- Participants in the Wednesday and Thursday sessions
- Past participant in IUP Annual Writing Workshops
- Interested in individual or small group guidance for creating meaningful and appropriate writing assignments for students
- Interested in improving the quality of writing assignments typically received from students
- Interested in revising a course syllabus to include or clarify writing assignments
