Psychology Brown Bag Discussion on Sexual Double Standards

Ms. Beth Watson, doctoral student in Clinical Psychology, will discuss two research projects that explore negative sexual labels, such as “slut,” and the impact they have on girls. The talk and discussion will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Uhler Hall, Room 109.

Two studies, both currently in progress, will be presented. The first investigates the relationship between promiscuity and sexual abuse history. The second project concentrates on the sexual double standard on IUP’s campus and its implications for contraceptive use. The presentation will also offer some insights on differences between qualitative and quantitative research methods when examining the sexual double standard.
