Dr. Andrew Zhou, faculty coordinator of the Electro-Optics program at IUP’s Northpointe campus, attended the American Technical Education Association’s forty-seventh national Conference on Technical Education on April 7–9, 2010, in Indianapolis.
At the conference, Dr. Zhou presented “Photonics Technicians to Support Critical, Emerging Technologies.” The presentation highlighted the recent national study conducted by the National Center for Optics and Photonics Education, which outlines that more than 2,100 new photonics technicians are needed this year. In order to meet this demand, the learning outcomes, curriculum models, and teaching materials for infusing photonics courses into core curricula and specialty areas were discussed.
