IUP Students Perform Side by Side with Members of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Twenty-six IUP Music majors had the unique privilege of performing with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra during that ensemble’s performance in Fisher Auditorium on March 26, 2010.

This marvelous opportunity, ten years in the making, was a result of the partnership between the IUP College of Fine Arts and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Though the chamber orchestra and full orchestra have presented programs and master classes on campus, this concert marked the first time in more than three decades that IUP students performed side-by-side with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Fourteen brass, piano, and percussion majors performed Richard Danielpour’s Icarus and twelve string students participated in a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8.

One student commented, “What an honor is was to play with such a prestigious group of people and represent IUP! It was an experience I'll never forget!”
