Susan Dawkins, Department of Developmental Studies, delivered a presentation on March 26, 2010, at the Pennsylvania Chapter of Multicultural Education Conference held at IUP.
Ms. Dawkins’ presentation, “Bhutanese Refugees in Pittsburgh: A Growing Population,” provided the audience with an overview of how an ethnic minority was persecuted in Bhutan, spent decades in refugee camps, and have ultimately resettled in western nations, including the United States, since 2008. Also discussed were acculturation issues for refugees in general and specific cultural characteristics of this population.
