Dr. Madeline Paternostro Bayles of the Department of Health and Physical Education testified in early March 2010 before the Maryland State House of Delegates, representing the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
Dr. Bayles provided information and testimony against a proposed bill to license personal trainers in the state of Maryland. She also provided testimony regarding educational requirements and nationally recognized certifications for personal trainers, such as those offered by the ACSM and other accredited organizations, and proposed that these standards should form the basis of any attempt to regulate personal trainers in the state.
