J.B. Salter Display

A collection of vintage wind instruments on loan courtesy of J.B. and Donna Salter of Erie, Pennsylvania, are on display in the Orendorff Music Library during the Spring semester.

The collection includes a Wurlitzer cornet made in the late 1880s, a 1906 Conn cornet similar to the model used by Louis Armstrong, and a World War I bugle made around 1916. There is an Olds trombone made ca. 1912 owned by Erie native Oscar Nutter, trombonist with the John Philip Sousa Band in the 1920s. There are five flutes from the 1700s and 1800s, three Albert System clarinets from the 1800s, three piccolos, and two Civil War-era fifes.

J.B. Salter is a professional band instrument repairman who owns Presque Isle Brass and Woodwind in Erie. His son, Jack Salter, is a Music major at IUP.
