Two IUP undergradutes received $1,000 scholarships from the Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education (PBCOHE).

Last December, the Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement forwarded sixteen scholarship applications to the Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education for consideration by the scholarship committee. The organization awarded a total of nine $1,000 scholarships to Commonwealth students. Criteria required included scholarship (3.0 GPA or above), extracurricular activity participation, leadership qualities, and interpersonal qualities. Students were required to compose an essay explaining why they should receive the scholarship award.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania winners are:

  • Apris Marjorie Walker (Junior, Communications Media major): K. Leroy Irvis Undergraduate Scholarship – $1,000
  • Quion Gunning (Sophomore, International Business and Spanish major): K. Leroy Irvis Undergraduate Scholarship – $1,000

Awards will be presented at the fortieth annual conference of the PBCOHE on March 5, 2010, at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel in Philadelphia, Pa.
