Spring Break 2010 Housing and Dining Closing Notice

All university residential facilities will be closed and locked with I-Card access systems deactivated from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, until noon on Sunday, March 14, 2010. Students are not permitted in the residence halls during the break period.

Note: Wallwork Hall (Sutton Suites), McCarthy Hall, and University Towers will be available for break housing residency only for students who meet specific criteria.

Residence Hall Closing

  1. All residents not participating in commencement activities must vacate their rooms by no later than 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010. All residential buildings will be closed and I-Card systems deactivated during semester break. Students are asked to leave for break as early as possible following their last final.
  2. The following procedures must be completed by all residents before leaving. Rooms will be checked by the residence hall staff to ensure that these steps have been completed. The university assumes no responsibility for any consequences of failure to carry out these procedures.
    1. Remove all perishable food
    2. Completely empty all trash cans
    3. Leave heat valves open.
    4. Close drapes, pull window shades halfway.
    5. Close and securely latch windows, turn lights out, and lock door.
    6. Shut off all electrical appliances/items (except refrigerators), and check that no outlets are overloaded. Note: As an added precaution, it is recommended that all electrical appliances/items be disconnected from the wall outlets during semester break.
  3. Food service is not available during semester break. The dining hall schedule is as follows:
    1. Foster
      1. Last meal served: Noon on Saturday, March 6
      2. First meal served: Noon on Sunday, March 14
    2. Folger
      1. Last meal served: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5
      2. First meal served: 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 14
    3. HUB Rock II
      1. Last meal served: 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5
      2. First meal served: 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 15
    4. Oak Room
      1. Last meal served: 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5
      2. First meal served: 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 15
    5. Java City Library
      1. Last meal served: 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5
      2. First meal served: 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 15
    6. Java City Foster
      1. Last meal served: 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5
      2. First meal served: 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 15

Important Information

  • The university cannot be responsible for theft or damage to any items left in student rooms during semester break. Students are urged to make special provisions for the security of valuable items. As a reminder, it is advisable for all residents to have personal property insurance.
  • Residents are advised that any necessary maintenance and/or custodial services will continue to be performed during semester break.
  • All residential buildings will re-open at noon on Sunday, March 14. I-Card access systems will be reactivated at that time.
  • The deadline to apply for break housing is Friday, February 26, 2010. For information regarding break housing, please contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at 357-2696.
