Alcoa Partnership

On November 18, 2009, Safety Sciences Chairperson Dr. Lon Ferguson and Dr. Tracey Cekada, assistant professor, received recognition for the Alcoa Partnership Grant from Alcoa’s Corporate Health and Safety director, Mr. Jeff Shockey, and Alcoa’s EHS training manager, Ms. Jamie Mackay. President Tony Atwater also attended this reception.

The Alcoa Patrnership Program has two primary objectives. The first is to enhance student learning opportunities that provide hands-on exposure to industry that will help students succeed in the profession. This will be accomplished through a Strategic Analysis Project and through Student Field Trips. The second objective is to increase the pool of under-represented people of color and women into the Safety Sciences program and ultimately the profession through scholarships.
