Thanksgiving Break 2009 Closing Notice

All university residential facilities, with the exception of Wallwork Hall (formerly Sutton Suites), McCarthy Hall, and University Towers, will be closed and locked, with I-Card access systems deactivated, from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, through noon on Sunday, November 29, 2009. Students are not permitted in the residence halls during the break period.

Note: Wallwork Hall (formerly Sutton Suites), McCarthy Hall, and University Towers will be available only for students who have applied for and been assigned to break housing residency.

Residence Hall Closing

  1. All resident students must vacate their rooms no later than 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009. All residence halls will be closed and I-Card systems deactivated during the break. Students are asked to leave for break as early as possible following their last class.
  2. The following procedures must be completed by all residents before leaving. Rooms will be checked by the residence hall staff to ensure that these steps have been completed. The university assumes no responsibility for any consequences of failure to carry out these procedures.
    1. Remove all perishable food
    2. Completely empty all trash cans
    3. Leave heat valves open
    4. Close drapes/pull window shades halfway
    5. Close and securely latch windows, turn lights out, and lock door
    6. Shut off all electrical appliances/items and check that no outlets are overloaded. Note: As an added precaution, it is recommended that all electrical appliances/items are disconnected from the wall outlets during the November break period.
  3. Food service is not available during the vacation. The dining hall closing and opening schedule is as follows:

    • Last meal served: Noon on Saturday, Nov. 21
    • First meal served: 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29
  • Folger
    • Last meal served: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20
    • First meal served: 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29
  • Hub Rock Cafe
    • Last meal served: 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20
    • First meal served: 7:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30
  • Oak Room
    • Last meal served: 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20
    • First meal served: 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30
  • Java City Library
    • Last meal served: 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20
    • First meal served: 8:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30
  • Eberly Café
    • Last meal served: 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19
    • First meal served: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30

Important Information

  • The university cannot be responsible for theft or damage to any items left in student rooms during the break period. Students are urged to make special provisions for the security of valuable items. As a reminder, it is advisable for all residents to have personal property insurance.
  • Residents are advised that any necessary maintenance and/or custodial services will continue to be performed during the break period.
  • All residential buildings will reopen beginning at noon on Sunday, November 29, 2009. I-Card access systems will be reactivated at that time. No residential building will open for any reason prior to noon on Sunday, November 29.
