Lowery Presents During FERPAnar

Dr. John Wesley Lowery, associate professor of Student Affairs in Higher Education, presented recently with Anne Lundquist, dean of Students at Wells College, on FERPA and Student Affairs as part of FERPAnar on October 22, 2009. FERPAnar was a one-day on-line conference focused on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Final Rule went into effect January 8, 2009—the biggest overhaul in twenty years. Now that major changes to the FERPA regulations have been finalized, higher education professionals are scrambling to figure out how to comply with the law—a daunting task. From on-line privacy concerns to dealing with helicopter parents, FERPAnar is the comprehensive on-line conference that delivers a complete analysis of the latest developments, so participants can understand how policies and programs may need to change.

Other FERPAnar presenters included: Paul Gammill, head of the U.S. Department of Education’s Family Policy Compliance Office; Clifford A. Ramirez; Richard Rainsberger, Ph.D.; and Steven J. Healy, past president of IACLEA and director of Public Safety at Princeton University.
