Stein Moves into Role of Past President of State Association

David Stein, professor of speech-language pathology in the Department of Special Education and Clinical Services, has transitioned into the role of past president of the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association (PSHA).

During his time as president, he oversaw the reintroduction of a new licensure act. He worked to begin changes in how the Pennsylvania Department of Education deals with speech-language pathologists—specifically to develop a new Educational Specialist certificate for speech-language pathologists and to accept the ASHA National Exam in speech-language pathology as well as its own Praxis II exam for Instructional I certification. These changes will help more speech-language pathologists be eligible to work in Pennsylvania public schools and remove barriers that keep them from choosing the schools as a work site.
