Cough and Cold Season Busy at Health Service

The Health Service is currently very busy during this time of year. We are seeing an average of 95 to 100 students each day during the hours we are open! Waiting times are especially long these days if you come during lunch hour since our staff also takes lunch breaks. Bring something to read or bring some homework to do while you wait.

If you find you are sick with cold and upper respiratory symptoms such as cough, cold, and congestion, why not try our Self Care Center? You can get cough medicine, fever medicine, and decongestant without any wait and without any charges. You also get a registration form that says you were in the health center for care in case you need to show a professor that you have been sick. (Remember, we cannot provide any documentation of an illness if you were not seen at the health center during that illness.) We also hope you do not need to come to the busy health center just for “an excuse for class.” Talk to your professors about how you can make up missed work.

Avoid hanging out with friends who are sick. Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze and be sure to wash your hands a lot during cold and flu season. Take over the counter medicines for your symptoms and give your body a chance to get better. Get a flu shot later in October when they are available, get plenty of sleep, drink lots of liquids, take a daily vitamin, eat healthy, and stay healthy!
