Coles Attends Conference on Variable Star Observing

Loading...

Professor Ken Coles, Department of Geoscience, participated in an astronomy project to measure a mysterious star, hosted by the American Association of Variable Star Observers at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago during the first week of August 2009.

A two-year, worldwide network of observers will measure the changing brightness of the star Epsilon Aurigae. Every twenty-seven years, this star dims for two years, but the cause remains unknown. Coles made measurements of the star and join in outreach to the public to invite their observations of the star. Coles’s participation in the conference was supported by the National Science Foundation.
