Gerald W. Intemann, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, announced the appointment of Dr. David L. Myers as interim director of the John P. Murtha Institute for Homeland Security beginning September 1, 2009. Dr. Myers will replace Dr. Jeffrey Crane, who will be stepping down as director and leaving the university.
Dr. Myers arrived at IUP in 1998 as an assistant professor in the Department of Criminology after receiving bachelor's and master's degrees in criminal justice at Shippensburg University and his Ph.D. degree in criminology and criminal justice at the University of Maryland, College Park.
During his eleven years at IUP, Dr. Myers rose to the rank of full professor and served as graduate director and doctoral program coordinator in the Department of Criminology as well as serving as director of the Center for Research in Criminology. He also served for three years as a dean's associate in the School of Graduate Studies. Most recently, Dr. Myers served as interim vice provost for Research and dean of Graduate Studies and as interim executive director of the Research Institute.
Dr. Myers is the author of two books and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters.
