Announcement for IUP Students and Their Families Regarding PHEAA Grant Program

Loading...

As you likely are aware, the June 30, 2009, deadline for approval of a new state budget has passed, and the governor and members of the General Assembly have not yet agreed on an overall spending plan for the current fiscal year, which began July 1. As a result, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) is not currently able to provide grant awards for the 2009–2010 school year.

Despite the difficulties this presents, we want to assure our students and their families that the school year will begin on schedule. We also want all of our students to be able to focus on their classes when the semester begins.

If you were expecting to receive a Pennsylvania state grant this fall, please be assured that Indiana University of Pennsylvania has developed a strategy to assist you through this situation so that your education will not be interrupted. IUP has arranged to fund your PHEAA state grant for you until the final budget is determined. This way, you will see uninterrupted processing of your financial aid for the Fall 2009 semester.

Please note that we will be posting an amount equal to your current PHEAA state grant award for Fall 2009 on your Fall student account at IUP. Should the final commonwealth budget require that PHEAA reduce your PHEAA state grant award, this may result in a balance on your student account, for which you will be responsible.

For answers to specific questions related to the state grant program, please go to PHEAA’s website.
