At the direction of Governor Edward G. Rendell, all Pennsylvania flags on state facilities, including those at IUP, have been lowered to half staff in the Capitol Complex and across the Commonwealth to honor the memory of Corporal Jonathan M. Walls of Berks County.

Corporal Walls was killed in action on August 1, 2009, in Mushan Village, Afghanistan. Corporal Walls was assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division based in Fort Carson, Colorado.

Flags will remain at half staff through August 10.
