During the Spring 2009 semester, a curriculum change was approved for the Department of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR). Beginning with the Summer 2009 semester, the name of the department will change to the Department of Employment and Labor Relations (ELR) and the program requirement will be reduced from 42 to 36 credit hours.
The name change was done in order to better align the department with current trends in the field of employment relations, and the curricular change was made in order to be more consistent with other graduate programs.
Despite these changes, the ELR Department will continue to meet its mission of providing a multidisciplinary graduate degree program that prepares professional practitioners in the field of employment and labor relations in public and private management, unions, government agencies, and neutral and service organizations.
