Due to security and privacy considerations, IUP will implement technical blocks to prevent IUP network attached computers from participating in peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. Programs such as KaZaA, LimeWire and BitTorrent will be actively blocked at IUP's Internet gateways.
In addition to standard malware such as virus infected programs, spyware and adware, P2P programs are increasingly being used as a conduit for identity thieves to steal personal information. See the Dangers of File-Sharing Networks for more information.
The technical blocks will be implemented on May 4, 2009.
