Center for Health and Well-Being Offers Free Fitness, Recreational Programs

The Center for Health and Well-Being is offering a number of free programs this winter and spring as part of its fitness and recreation activities.

Fitness for Beginners

Center for Health and Well-Being, Room G-60

Two Sessions: 

  • Group 1—11:15 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.
  • Group 2—2:30 to 3:20 p.m.

January 28, 30; February 4, 6, 11, 13, 18

Are you new to physical fitness? Do you feel a bit uncomfortable with getting started in the fitness facilities on campus? Do you want the real "low-down" on what you need to do and stay physically fit? If this sounds like you, then join the Center for Health and Well-Being for a series of classes on beginning an exercise program. We will talk about and practice major components of physical fitness: cardiorespiratory fitness, strength training, core body training, flexibility and body composition. This is a series of classes that will also help you establish your own personal challenge!

Flexibili-Tea

Center for Health and Well-Being, Room G18

January 28 through February 20—Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:05–9:55 a.m.

Start your day with some hot tea and total body stretching. Flexibility is a core component of physical fitness, and anyone can become more flexible. Flexibili-Tea is a fun, easy and low intensity way to get your exercise program off to a great start.

Yoga

Center for Health and Well-Being, Room G-18

January 29 to February 26 and March 12 to April 16—Thursdays, 4:45–6:00 p.m.

Tone your body and soothe your mind with yoga! You don't have to be able to touch your toes to get lots of benefits from this ancient form of relaxation and healing. We are offering this gentle class that will help you to feel stronger and more flexible as well as teach you healthy ways of dealing with stress. Come and find out how simple and enjoyable it is.

Dance for Musical Theater

Center for Health and Well-Being, Room G18

January 23, 30; February 6, 13, 20; and March 13, 20, 21, 27, from 6:00–7:30 p.m.

What better way to get moving than through dance! If you have ever wanted to dance with a group or get moving through dance, this class is for you! Dance for Musical Theater is designed to accommodate beginning or intermediate dancers in all dance styles. We will be working toward putting together a dance that we can perform before an audience at the end of March.

Personal Fitness Challenge

Center for Health and Well-Being, Room G60

Registration not required for this program.

January 29 from 7:00–9:00 p.m.

Do you have something to motivate you to get out and move? Do you want to set a goal and get help achieving that goal? Then "Personal Fitness Challenge" is for you! In this class we will talk about the value in establishing goals throughout the year that can motivate you to keep moving and stay healthy. We will talk about setting realistic fitness goals, establish a "personal fitness challenge," and then draft a plan to get you started. Continued support will be available for those involved in the program. Prizes will be awarded to those who complete their "personal fitness challenge." Come on, let's get you moving toward a personal fitness challenge!

There Is No Such Thing as Bad Weather; Only Bad Clothing

Center for Health and Well-Being, G60

February 5 from 7:00–8:00 p.m.

There is no such thing as bad weather; only bad clothing. This is a famous and very true Russian proverb. If you want to enjoy the great outdoors all year long, you need to learn how to dress in order to stay comfortable from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F. We will discuss how to dress for the outdoors from head to toe. Come and join us for a night of outdoor haute couture
