Opera “The Consul” Opens December 3

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Music Theater will present Gian Carlo Menotti's Pulitzer Prize-winning opera, "The Consul,” Dec. 3-6.

Directed by Sarah Mantel, “The Consul” will be presented at 7 p.m. in IUP’s Performing Arts Center’s Waller Hall.

This music drama centers on individual freedoms and the fight against oppression. The opera is set in an unnamed 1940s postwar European country that is torn by civil strife.

Tickets for “The Consul” are available in advance at the Hadley Union Building ticket office on the IUP campus. Tickets remaining can be purchased at the door 45 minutes before the start of the performance. Tickets are $15 for regular admission, $13 for seniors and groups, and $9 for students and children.

For more information, call The Lively Arts at (724) 357-2547. Tickets may be purchased with a credit card by calling the HUB Ticket Office at (724) 357-1313.

This intense operatic work is not recommended for young children and contains some scenes of violence.

IUP Music Theater is a production of the IUP department of music and the College of Fine Arts. It is funded, in part, by the IUP Student Cooperative Association.
