On Monday, November 17, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Weyandt 32, Dr. Hans Carlson will be giving a presentation entitled “Eeyou Istchee (The People’s Land): James Bay Cree Political Ecology and the Resource Development of Northern Quebec.” The talk will focus on the role of large hydroelectric projects in Quebec as political symbols and the implications for the native people who have traditionally inhabited the northern portions of the province.
Dr. Carlson is an assistant professor of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota. He has a forthcoming book based on his reasearch, which was sponsored by the Quebec government.
