Buried: The Sago Mine Disaster, a play written by Jerry Starr with musical arrangements by Anne Feeney, focuses on the aftermath of the January 2006 West Virginia mine explosion that claimed the lives of twelve men and severely disabled another. It celebrates the courage of the victims' wives and daughters who organized a campaign to seek answers, justice, and ultimately the nation's first major mine safety legislation in more than thirty years.
Buried is based on thousands of pages of hearing transcriptions and media interviews, along with extensive background research of the issues. The play premiered with an equity cast at Pittsburgh Playwrights December 2006.
