Welcome back, web maintainers! We hope you all enjoyed your summer. As you start another busy semester, there are some things that you might find helpful to know. Here’s a quick update on what happened last semester and what’s coming up.

Strategic Website Assistance Project (SWAP)

Also known as “Website Assistance for Every Undergraduate and Graduate Program at IUP,” SWAP is a project funded by the president’s Strategic Initiative Fund. The goal of SWAP is to improve recruitment of new students by improving the representation of academic programs on IUP’s website.

The Web Team has completed updates to the following departmental sites:

Additional departmental websites will be updated throughout the 2014–2015 year.

In addition, the Undergraduate Admissions site has been updated, including Multicultural Resources and Services.

The Beak

IUP’s daily e-mail newsletter for students starts up again on Friday, August 22. As with all web content, news posts for the Beak (or for IUP Daily) must be submitted by 2:00 p.m. for publication on the following day. Here’s more info about how to post a news item.

Don’t Forget Your Calendar

Making a news post and a calendar event are two separate actions, but doing both will help website visitors find the information they need. Remember that events added to the Central Calendar should be on-campus events to which everyone is invited. A student organization meeting, for example, would be included on the Student Calendar, but not on the Central Calendar. Here’s more info about how to add an event to your site’s calendar.

Calendar events are getting much better exposure in the new version of the IUP Mobile app!

IUP Mobile App

IUP Mobile 2.0 has been completely rebuilt, with a new look, faster response, and new features to offer a better experience on your phone or tablet. Log in with your IUP Network ID—the same as MyIUP—to access an improved interactive map, MyIUP integration, better coverage of athletic events, links to IUP on YouTube and LinkedIn, and many other improvements.

Note: IUP Mobile 2.0 launched on August 14. If you installed the previous version, you may have already been automatically upgraded to the new version.

Training

Whether you just want a refresher or if you’re new to Ektron, our web training sessions are scheduled every month. Registration is required.

New Basics

Get introduced to Ektron (the content management system), and learn the basics of how to use it to maintain your site, from updating pages to creating a news post or calendar event.

  • September 3, 1:00–3:00 p.m. (This class is full.)
  • September 16, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Intermediate Training

A follow up to the New Basics, this is intended for web maintainers who have already completed that workshop (or who already have equivalent skills).

  • September 5, 1:00–3:00 p.m.
  • September 18, 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Please take a moment to look at the list of Web Maintainers for your office (login required). If there’s anyone who needs to be removed or added, please fill out on ihelp ticket and let us know.
