Steampunk Gala Coming to Museum

Poster: Hot Iron Gala 2014, Save the DatePresident and Mrs. Michael Driscoll invite you to save the date for the 2014 University Museum Gala: Hot Iron—A Victorian Industrial Fantasy, on Friday, September 26.

The steampunk-themed gala combines Victorian/Edwardian dress with accessories for the kinds of adventures imagined by Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, such as watches on chains, pocket compasses, and flying goggles. Guests are invited to indulge their fashion fantasies in attending the gala.

The gala begins at 6:00 p.m. at the University Museum with a reception and viewing of the exhibition “Irons: Functional Tools to Art Objects,” featuring the Maureen A. Flaherty Post Collection of Irons and Iron Related Objects. The exhibition tells the cultural, social, and technological story of ironing from ancient times to the present.

Dining, dancing, and musical entertainment will follow in the Blue Room.

Advance reservations are required for the event.

This annual benefit event supports the museum’s admission-free exhibitions, public education programs, and conservation of the art objects in its care.

Watch University Museum news for additional information about the gala.
