IUP Punxsutawney PACE Program 2014 Begins

PACE 14 BeginsIUP Punxsutawney celebrated the opening of its eighth annual PACE Program on Saturday, July 5. PACE, or the Punxsutawney Advance College Experience, provides fall freshmen students the opportunity to earn their first eight Liberal Studies credits across three courses during the five-week Summer II Session.

PACE students begin their IUP study in a strongly supported living-learning environment, with strong emphasis placed upon a holistic transition to the college environment.

The students participated in nine success workshops through their arrival weekend and in advance of the start of Tuesday classes. Afternoon and evening success workshops will continue throughout the summer term and, in most cases, are curriculum-based. PACE class sections meet Monday through Thursday, with the Friday class day reserved for a series of curriculum-based fine arts excursions to theater productions, musical performances, and museum tours. In addition to their class schedule, students participate in two 90-minute group study labs per day in order to build upon critical study skills.

The seven instructional faculty members are supported by an upper class peer, two DVST faculty success coaches and additional administrative support staff and peers. A total of 123 students chose to begin PACE 2014. The cohort size is a 28 percent increase over 2013 and is the largest enrollment since 2010.
