Spring 2014 McNair Scholar Spotlight

Dan O'HaraDan O’Hara ’14, a Geoscience and Computer Science double major from Ebensburg, Pa., has been selected for a prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program Fellowship, beginning in the 2014–2015 academic year.

The fellowship will provide full tuition remission and a stipend of $32,000 per year for each year O’Hara is enrolled in the Geophysics PhD program at the University of Oregon.

As a McNair Scholar, O’Hara worked on independent research with Jon Lewis on the tectonics of Taiwan. His accomplishments include being selected to participate in the National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates Program at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in summer 2011, being accepted to the McNair Scholars Program, receiving a scholarship from the NSF-funded S-COAM Program at IUP, giving a talk at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco in December 2011, and being a recipient of a 2013–2014 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.
