Musical Premiere Up Next for Keystone Repertory Theater

Hands on a HardbodyKeystone Repertory Theater, IUP’s summer theater, will present the Pennsylvania premiere of the musical comedy Hands on a Hardbody. Performances are June 12–14, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. and June 15 at 2:00 p.m. outside at the Flagstone Amphitheater, rain or shine.

In this telling of a true story, nine Texans compete for a brand new truck with only humor and the American dream to keep them fighting. The book is by Pulitzer Prize-winning Doug Wright, and music is by Trey Anastasio of the band Phish and Amanda Green. The show, chockfull of small-town values, is directed by KRT artistic director Nick Hrutkay, an IUP alumnus.

Out in the elements for days on end and armed with nothing but hope, humor, and ambition, each contestant fights to keep at least one hand on a brand new truck in order to win it. In the hilarious, hard-fought contest that is Hands on a Hardbody, only one winner can drive away with the American Dream.

The cast, made up of 14 IUP students and alumni, will perform outside in the spirit of the original competition, with all performances held at the Flagstone Amphitheater, outside of Wallwork Hall on the IUP campus.
