Keystone Rep Opens Season with “Marvelous Wonderettes”

The Marvelous WonderettesKeystone Repertory Theater, IUP’s summer theater produced by the Department of Theater and Dance, will open its 2014 season with Roger Bean’s musical The Marvelous Wonderettes. Performances will be held May 29–31, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m. at the Old Navy location in the Indiana Mall.

If you enjoyed last summer’s Forever Plaid or heard about how great it was, you'll want to catch The Marvelous Wonderettes. The cast will take you back to the 1958 Springfield Prom where you will meet Cindy Lou, Missy, Betty Jean and Suzy—four girls with dreams as big as their crinoline skirts.

This musical comedy is filled with 1950s and ’60s hits like “Lollipop,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick on Your Collar,” “It’s My Party,” and over 20 other classic tunes.

Under the direction of current IUP student Matt Spencer, director of last year’s Forever Plaid, The Marvelous Wonderettes will be filled with laughs and high energy. Wonderettes features Samantha Fabiani from Chippewa, Pa.; Sarah Fabiani, also from Chippewa, Pa.; Kelly Sue Snyder from Folsom, Pa.; and Chelsea Young from Indiana, Pa.

KRT is under the artistic direction of IUP alumnus Nick Hrutkay. Long-time Indiana resident Cheryl Randal serves as managing director. The KRT company is comprised of current and recent IUP theater students.

Tickets for all the show are available at IUPTickets.com and at the Hadley Union Building Box Office on the IUP campus. Tickets are also available by calling 724-347-1313. For more information, call the Lively Arts at 724-357-2787 (ARTS) or e-mail lively-arts@iup.edu

For the remainder of the summer, KRT will present the new musical Hands on a Hardbody June 12–15 on the Flagstone Amphitheater outside of IUP’s Wallwork Hall; the musical Sweeney Todd July 31–August 3 in the Toretti Auditorium, Kovalchick Complex; and the dramatic play The Glass Menagerie August 7–10 at the Waller Hall Studio Theater.

Funding for KRT is provided, in part, by the Student Cooperative Association, business sponsors, and individual donors.
