Poole Keynote Speaker at Indiana County League of Women Voters Annual Meeting

Amanda Poole of the Anthropology Department presented the keynote speech at the annual meeting of the League of Women Voters in Indiana, Pa., on May 14, 2014. Her talk, “Eritrea; Perspectives on Citizenship and Stewardship,” drew from her research on state-society relations in Eritrea, the Horn of Africa, to reflect on contemporary issues surrounding citizenship, governance, and civic ecology.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. There are over 60 members of the Indiana County League of Women Voters. Membership is open to any citizen age 18 and over, with associate membership available for youth and non-citizens, and a student membership available for IUP students.
