Fennimore Publishes Article about Social Justice and Celia Genishi

Beatrice Fennimore, Professional Studies in Education, has written an article called “Social Justice and the Work of Celia Genishi: The Power of One-on-One” for the journal Contemporary Issues in Early Childhood.

The article was written for a special issue of the journal edited by Mariana Souto-Manning of Teachers College, Columbia University, and is focused on the work of Celia Genishi, who recently retired from Teachers College after a distinguished career. Her work in literacy and assessment has been widely influential.

Genishi was born in an internment camp for Japanese-American citizens and was deeply affected by the hardship experienced by her family during this time. A powerful advocate for social justice, she was a winner of the Advocates for Justice award of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and is honored as a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association.
