Reception in Honor of Alumna Shattuck Hosted at Eberly

Molly Shattuck being welcomed at the receptionApproximately 40 students and 15 administrators and faculty from the Eberly College joined together to welcome Molly George Shattuck ’89 on April 28, 2014.

Shattuck, a marketing graduate of IUP, kicked off her Molly George Shattuck ’89 Leadership Program, which was established to host annual events in the Eberly College such as workshops, panels, mini-conferences, and retreats.

The fund of $250,000, given last fall by the Shattuck Family Foundation, is designed to enhance the educational experience of young women by addressing the challenges that they may face in the pursuit of successful careers in business.

Throughout the reception, Shattuck was able talk with students about their summer plans and their career goals. Shattuck gave great advice and inspiration by using her own personal stories to connect with each student.

A buffet of fruits, vegetables, and yogurt was provided as a delicious way for everybody to mingle while discussing her newly released book, Vibrant Living. This book offers a revolutionary 21-day action plan, which provides readers with the opportunity to transform their bodies, gain energy, and live life with a higher purpose.

After networking, a few remarks were made by Cynthia Strittmatter, Eberly’s assistant dean for Administration; Susan Stake, Advancement officer; Christine Shontz, Accounting sophomore from Eberly and student leader of the program; and Robert Camp, Eberly’s dean. Shattuck was the featured speaker and addressed the audience on her experiences at IUP, her goals for the leadership program, and the importance of philanthropy.

Freshman and business honors cohort member Lisa Fletcher indicated that the reception was “very nice and very well put together. The program had a great theme, and I loved that Molly was able to come around and talk to everybody. It was awesome that it was so personal.”

Several hundred students then attended Shattuck’s Six O’Clock Series event, “Live Intentionally,” hosted in the Hadley Union Building of IUP.
